Ascorbic acid health benefits

Also sometimes called vitamin C, ascorbic acid is the antioxidant that is used to prevent and treat those with scurvy. You can buy ascorbic acid in a variety of forms including extended-release (long-lasting) capsules and tablets, lozenges, syrups, chewable tablets and liquid drops that are taken in through the mouth. Usually you will only need to take one dosage per day in order to meet your needs and promote optimal health.

You should not take more than the recommended dosage however as too much could prove to be harmful. When taking ascorbic acid, you should also take it with a full glass of water to improve the body's ability to use it correctly.

It's also a smart idea to inform your doctor if you are taking any other medications before putting yourself on this supplement, as there could be interactions that you are not aware of.

Diabetics should also be careful when taking this antioxidant and get their doctor to explain to them how they can check their urine for high concentrations. Doing so will allow them to ensure they don't see any negative health consequences.

Note as well that certain varieties of this supplement can contain high levels of added sodium so if you are currently on a sodium reduced diet, this is definitely something you are going to have look into.

The side effects that can be seen in some individuals include diarrhea and an upset stomach. For most people this not an issue however.
