Ginseng

One of the popular ingredients in energy drinks, ginseng is refers to a herb that comes from the plant family Araliacae.

Ginseng has been traditionally used as a way to improve the central nervous system, prevent the body from the development of stress ulcers, increase gastrointestinal motility, for the prevention of feelings of fatigue, enhancing male sexual function and the increase in metabolic rate. Because of its wide variety of benefits, it is sold in many sports nutritional stores as well as supplement shops.

Ginseng can be purchased as a whole root, a dried powder or else in standardized extract form. When purchasing in extract form it is slightly harder to know that you are getting an effective dose of the product, therefore it's slightly better if you buy the root or powder variety.

The daily dose recommended is 100-300 mg for a three to six week time period. This should be enough to all the adaptations to take place and for you to see the benefits it offers. In dried root form, you'll want to be taking 1-2 grams per day if it's American ginseng and 2-3 grams per day if it's Siberian ginseng.

Be sure while taking it that you do watch to see if you experience any side effects as some individuals may find this. It's not uncommon if you are sensitive to other stimulant products so be sure to take care while using it.
